REQUIEM is an arcade-style space shooter set along the outer edges of the solar system.

  • Navigate a grid-like map
  • Shoot asteroids to keep your engines fueled
  • Discover the wrecks of other ships... and the source of their destruction

This little game exists because I want to get to know Godot a bit better before jumping into a bigger project.

I thought I'd just take an arcade classic (and everyone's quintessential first game project) and add a little extra to it - some extra mechanics, some extra visual design…

But somehow, and even though it's still a simple game at heart, it ate through a couple of months of my limited free time.

It was both a challenging and rewarding experience, and I lost some of my apprehension about several aspects of game dev: shaders, cutscenes, UI.

I'm very proud of how it came out—I never imagined that I could get it so close to the version that lives in my head.

Can't wait to do it again—and better—next time!

Itch Embed:

The itch.io embed messes up the CRT shader when the game is minimized. It is now turned off by default, but you can turn it back on in the Options Menu if you want to experience the intended visual effect.

Browser Support:

Tested on Windows and MacOS in Chromium-based Browsers (v. 136.0.7103.93) and Firefox (v. 138.0.1).

AI Disclaimer:

All text was written by me. No art assets were made with AI. All SFX and music files were made by other humans as far as I can tell.

I used ChatGPT as an interactive search engine and troubleshooting tool ("Is this thing possible in GDScript that I can do in Java?" - "Why is X not working, aaaaahhh??") and to help me with some shader math. I am still learning shader math.
